Effervescence, Style and a Really Long Road

by ClearanceCharms

It’s true what they say, fashions come and go.  Trends will fade eventually, what’s hot today will be old hat tomorrow.  But style, now style is eternal my friends.  Style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s how you wear it.  A dress might last a season, but the poise of the woman in the dress lasts a lifetime.

I have a friend whose style, poise, grace and humor will stay with me and many others for the rest of our days, though she’s left us.  My friend Jackie Spellman, the always smiling Jax, lost her battle with Acute MyeloidLeukemia way too early at the age of 25.  Her effervescence simply can not be forgotten.  She lit up every room, touched every heart and helped every friend in need.  The girl simply had style.

I happen to know another young woman with a similiar pinache for all things adventure who is running her THIRD marathon in honor and support of Jackie.  This time, she returns to our youthful stomping grounds for the coveted and elite Boston Marathon! You might say I’m surrounded by runnin’ fools, I just don’t know how they do it!

“Marathon Monday” is a particularly strict event to qualify for and brings out crowds in the millions to watch the finish and cheer on the runners along the route.  No disrespect to the absolutely darling city of Charleston, but this is the real shebang.  The city becomes absolutely electrified with an amazing street pounding energy.  Starting in the suburbs and finishing in historic downtown Boston at Copley Square, this is event rivaled only by the ball drop in Times Square.  Droves of Bostonians pile into the streets for standing room only views, hoping to catch a glimpse of runners dying for the finish line.  And if their reeeally lucky, they just might see our own Courtney Caterino on April 18th as she crosses the line and reaches her funding goal for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of Jackie.

True style is still apparent even when one is all covered in sweat after a grueling 26.2 miles and wrapped in a tinfoil blankie.  Good luck, Court!
